We were thrilled to win five Merchant trophies at the International Wine Challenge’s Awards Dinner last night.
We were named Italy Specialist Merchant of the Year for the 17th time, Large Agent of the Year for the 3rd time, On-Trade Supplier of the Year for the 9th time, and Wine Educator of the Year for the 3rd consecutive year. Finally, the ‘champion of champions’ trophy for overall Merchant of the Year also came our way for the second year running.
As the results were announced, the judges made the following comments:
IWC Large Agent of the Year 2018
"Liberty Wines has come up with yet more well-judged innovation. They offer excellent service to their clients, and hosted over 100 winemaker visits and 32 educational trips in the last 12 months. They trained over 2,000 customers through their education programme. And they use surveys to find out what their customers want, then put those results into practice."
IWC On-Trade Supplier of the Year 2018
"Liberty just keep on expanding the boundaries of their service, whilst always getting the fundamentals right. For an on-trade supplier, superb logistics lie at the heart of the business. They also offer great wines."
IWC Wine Educator of the Year 2018
"This was a very considered entry, which did not solely focus on their WSET or trade education. They offer a properly customised educational offering."
IWC Italy Specialist Merchant of the Year 2018
"A really impressive range of wines, that offer quality at every price point."
IWC Merchant of the Year 2018
"Liberty Wines has swept the board in this year's Merchant Awards. They have won one award as Specialist, in Italian wines. They have won the Educator of the Year award, and they have won not only the hotly contested On-Trade Supplier award, but also the equally keen competition for Large Agent. Liberty seems like a great place to work and they clearly look after their team. They never rest on their laurels. The judges felt that the award was very well deserved."
These wins are down to the cumulative efforts of the fantastic team we have in place, who never stop trying to exceed the expectations of our customers, without whom we would not be here. Even as the awards took place, our teams in the office and warehouse were processing and picking orders for the next day in an operation which is now pretty well 24 hours, and in which everybody in the company plays a key part.
We would also like to congratulate the many award-winning producers in our portfolio, but especially Cherie Spriggs and the team at Nyetimber on her Sparkling Winemaker of the Year award, she is the first winemaker from outside of Champagne to win the award, and Justino’s, whose Madeira Terrantez 50 Years Old won the Manuel Lozano Trophy for the Champion Fortified Wine.
