Should the summer sun persist, choose a superb white from the Côte d’Or. Winemaker David Moret has made a real name for himself as a producer of poised, elegant whites. His personable character ensured success when he began his career (originally selling winery equipment) and he now has excellent relationships with growers from some of the most prestigious plots in Côte de Beaune. A warmer, riper vintage, his 2015s are tasting extremely well and are ready to drink now. For a beautifully concentrated and complex Meursault, why not try David’s 2015 Sous la Velle. One of David’s showstopper wines, his 2015 Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru ‘Les Folatières’, is made from grapes which grow in Puligny’s largest premier cru for something extra special.
If you prefer wines from further south, Domaine Corsin, new to Liberty’s portfolio in Spring 2017, have been making excellent quality wines from Saint Veran and Pouilly Fuissé since 1864. The Saint Veran Tirage Précoce (meaning early racking) is a wine unique to Domaine Corsin. It is unoaked and matured on fine lees before it is ready to bottle. The resulting wine is bright with fresh fruit and minerality, with a lovely complexity and texture from the lees ageing on the palate.
As our Burgundian winemakers busy themselves in the vineyards to harvest the grapes for future 2017s, the 2015s from Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret are ready and on their way to London, arriving at the end of September. Should summer give up and winter settle in, autumn is the perfect time to snuggle up with a lovely glass of Pinot Noir. En route is the 2015 La Croix, which has a notable purity and intense flavours of raspberries. It is well balanced with subtle, velvety tannins, finishing with a touch of vanilla. We also have allocations of two of their most prestigious wines: Clos-de-Vougeot Grand Cru and Grands Echezeaux Grand Cru.
We are lucky enough to hold stock of older vintages of some of our classic Burgundies and consider ourselves unique to be able to offer our customers wines from 2012, 2013 and 2014. Available still is 2014 Mercurey Les Puillets and 2013 Mercurey Le Roc Blanc from Chateau de Santenay, bottled exclusively under screwcap for Liberty Wines. For more information on these older vintages, please contact your Liberty Wines rep.
We are proud to watch our Burgundy portfolio grow each year, as we continue to add to our collection of prestigious winemakers from the Cote d’Or. In short – whatever the weather or occasion, you won’t be short of choice when it comes to drinking wines from our Burgundians this autumn!
