Willunga 100 is a winery in McLaren Vale, South Australia. The first vintage was in 2005 and it was while exploring the vineyards that the team came across plots of 50+ year-old Grenache vines. These vines produced stunning fruit and it became clear that this fruit was simply too good to blend away. The team decided to make these vines their focus and give them the attention they deserved. Ever since, Willunga’s focus has been on premium Grenache.
Willunga 100 Winemakers Mike Farmilo and Tim James have over 40 years of experience in South Australia between them. Their aim is to showcase the amazing fruit that is available to them by making fresh, aromatic, fruit-forward wines. They achieve this by employing techniques, such as careful hand-harvesting, whole bunch pressing, lees ageing and judicious oak ageing to enhance the fruit purity and freshness while adding complexity, texture and structure.
As Mike further explained, “There’s a new breed of Australian winemakers coming through that are making some pretty exciting styles. I’ve adopted some new techniques, in terms of making Grenache a little bit more like Pinot Noir, using a little bit of whole-bunch and even a bit of carbonic maceration to give you some more interesting complexities in the wine.”

2016 Rosé, Willunga 100
Willunga 100 always aim to produce a light, dry and savoury rosé from 100% Grenache. Therefore, harvest dates and vinification processes are carefully managed. Fruit for rosé production is harvested by hand earlier and more gently whole bunch pressed than parcels destined for red wines to maximise freshness and fruit purity. The resulting wine has a pretty nose full of strawberries, cherries and subtle rose petal aromatics. On the palate the wine has a lovely savoury tannin profile and crisp drying acid which gives it great length.
Perfect on warm summer days with fresh salads or fresh seafood.

2015 Willunga 100 Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz
(to be released beginning of July 2017)
This predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon blend has been received much praise by industry insiders. Neil Tabraham of Paris House praised this red blend’s ‘crunchy black fruits, chewy tannins with cassis and a chocolate richness on the finish’, while Dario Barbato of Individual Restaurants found ‘blackcurrant aromas with spicy and toasty notes, and the tannins are there, but rounded and not too aggressive’. Jamavar’s Alessandro de Angelis described a ‘menthol aroma, with a lively, fragrant palate and a lovely floral finish’, while WineEd’s Matthew Cocks appreciated its ‘elegant style, with a plush mid-palate and peppery finish, making it a match for a pepper-crusted flank steak’.
To top this, the wine won a Gold medal at the Sommelier Wine Awards 2017 and also received the Critic’s Choice Trophy for ‘Best Food Match with Burger’ firmly cementing this Cabernet/Shiraz blend as a summer BBQ must-have.

2015 The Hundred Blewitt Springs Grenache
As featured in Matthew Jukes 100 Best Australian Wines, Blewitt Springs single varietal Grenache 'underlines just how successful these wines can be when the fruit is not lost into larger, cross-region and sub-region blends' (Matthew Jukes). From grape processing to fermentation, care was taken to conserve the delicate, perfumed qualities of Grenache resulting in a fantastic summer red.
Red berry and floral aromatics of rose on the nose, with a roundness and richness from the lees ageing that works in harmony with the finer tannins and cherry spice notes on the palate.
Pairs perfectly with any BBQ
