The vineyards are situated in the areas of Colonnella, Notaresco and Roseto on the Adriatic coast of the Abruzzo region. Facing east and south east, vines are planted on both limestone and clay-based, medium-textured soils. Training is on both pergola and Guyot systems.

Vintage Information

Abundant snow fell at the beginning of February in Abruzzo, building up water levels. From the beginning of June to the end of the growing season, there were only two days of rain towards the end July. The rest of the time, it was sunny with constantly high temperatures. By contrast, the harvest period was very wet and careful timing was required to bring in healthy, ripe fruit.

Grapes were hand-harvested. After a meticulous selection of the grapes at the winery, the fruit was destemmed and crushed before it underwent cold maceration for four to six days. Fermentation on the skins then followed at 24°C for between 11-14 days in cement vats. Malolactic fermentation took place in barriques, where the wine was aged for 18 months.

Tasting Notes

This wine is intense ruby in colour, with violet highlights. The nose is intense and persistent with a spicy bouquet and hints of chocolate that complement the vibrant dark fruit character. This wine is well balanced and shows great structure and tannins.
