vineyards, including 30 hectares of Premier Cru and six hectares of Grand Cru sites. Founded in 1850, there is still a dynamism which permeates everything they do. Michel Laroche merged with another family-owned producer, Jeanjean, in 2009 and he remains involved in the business, along with his wife Gwénaël. As part of their aim to retain purity and minerality in the finished wine, Laroche was the first Burgundian producer to move to screwcaps in 2002.

Vaillons is one of the finest and most powerful Premiers Crus in Chablis. Excellent east/south sun exposure and Kimmeridgean soils ensure ripeness and fruit precision and a portion of clay in the soil adds richness. Domaine Laroche own seven hectares of vines here. The vines are all over 33 years old which adds to the concentration and intensity of fruit.

Vintage Information

A mild winter was followed by a cold and rainy spring with some spring frost and hailstone shower on some parts of the appellation. August was warm and dry which favored the so far belated ripening and accelerated the maturation process. The ideal September weather conditions with mild showers and a nice sunshine finally enabled to ensure a nice maturation of the grapes. The harvest started on Monday September 26th and ended on Tuesday, October 4th; similar to 2014. The 2016 vintage is a very precise vintage, fresh, lively and well balanced. The quantity was lessened but the quality is here.


Fruit was carefully sorted by hand in the vineyard and was pressed in a stainless steel pneumatic press. Juice was then settled for 12 hours. Fermentation took place over three weeks at 17°C. 15% of the wine was fermented and aged in French oak barrels and the remainder was vinified in stainless steel. All the wine underwent malolactic fermentation. Nine months ageing was followed by a light bentonite fining and minimal filtration to preserve the natural body and fruit of the wine.

Tasting Notes

An intense gold colour in the glass. Complex aromas with hints of flint, ripe pear and summer blossom. The palate offers intense yet dry white fruit flavours, a long finish and a fine freshness.
