Vineyards

The vineyards are located close to some of the most reputed estates in Bordeaux, including Château Mouton-Rothschild and Château Latour. The vines are over 50 years old, planted on gravel and sandy soils at a density of 10,000 vines per hectare. The vines are double-cordon trellised and planted on gentle slopes, with all harvesting done by hand.

Vintage Information

The 2014 vintage experienced a moderate but wet winter, followed by early flowering and bud burst during early spring. The beginning of summer was warm but a period of cooler weather with heavy rainfall interrupted the good weather. Conditions then improved, with an Indian summer that dried the vines and fully ripened the grapes, resulting in a good quality vintage.

Vinification

The 2014 Château Montgrand Milon is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. Vinification took place in temperature controlled, stainless steel tanks. The wine was then aged for 12-15 months in French oak, 15% of which was new.

Tasting Notes

The nose boasts bright aromas of blackberries with hints of cinnamon and clove from the oak. The palate is well balanced, with silky tannins, fresh acidity, concentrated fruit and a lifted finish. It is rare to find a Pauillac like this that is both affordable and approachable.
