Maison Les Alexandrins brings together the scions of two of the great families...
of the Rhône, Nicolas Jaboulet, formerly of the eponymous winery in Tain, and the Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel. This joint venture micro-négociant was created in 2009 with the sole aim of producing top quality Northern Rhône wines. Nicolas is able to source the best fruit and wines from growers and producers that he has formed a long standing relationship with, while the Perrin family bring expertise in winemaking and blending, as well as the use of their cellars.
This wine is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. The Grenache is grown on vines located in the commune of Vaucluse and the Syrah and Mourvèdre are from vineyards further north, in Vinsobres. The vineyards are planted on a variety of soils: clay and limestone with a stony top soil. The stones are excellent for retaining heat and ensuring that the grapes achieve full ripeness.
For the appellations of the Northern Rhône Valley, 2015 was a truly exceptional year, almost without precedent. After a mild, wet winter and particularly high temperatures in spring, summer brought a heatwave even hotter than 2003. Welcome rain arrived in abundance in mid-August, followed anew by glorious sunshine and a providential wind that guaranteed perfect conditions and a regular and rapid ripening of the grapes. And so, the harvest benefited from optimum conditions during the first two weeks of September.
After the grapes were harvested, they were sorted and destemmed at the winery. Fermentation took place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine aged in tank for 12 months, which allowed the tannins to homogenise and soften, before the wine was bottled.
The Côte-du-Rhône 2015 offers opulent aromas of black and red fruits with a warming cinnamon spice. The combination of Grenache and Syrah gives the wine a beautiful freshness and generous mouthfeel, with an aromatic finish. This wine is drinking extremely well now, but will also age well over the next five years.
