'Ponte Pietra' (stone bridge) dates back to Roman times, although vines have been planted on the hills outside of Verona for much longer than this bridge has spanned the Adige River.

Vineyards

The fruit for this wine is grown on several hillside vineyards outside Verona where growers have reduced their yields quite considerably to produce excellent quality fruit.

Vintage Information

2017 can be characterised by cold winter weather with abundant rainfall. At the end of April, there was a period of frost. For this reason, budburst in the valley did not begin until the beginning of May, although on hillside vineyards it began sooner. Sunny weather allowed for normal vegetative growth over the summer months. It was a difficult year due to the combination of frost and then drought, but nevertheless grapes were harvested healthy and of good quality.

Vinification

The Pinot Grigio grapes are a copper colour when ripe. In order to retain the 'coppery' colour, the skins are left in contact with the juice for about 18 hours in order to give the wine this attractive tint. The juice is then fermented at a low temperature (about 15°C) in stainless steel to retain the subtle aromatic characters of the grape.

Tasting Notes

A lovely salmon-pink colour, this Rosato is fresh and crisp, with a delicious strawberry perfume which gives way to a vibrant cherry character on the palate. A savoury note adds depth, and lively acidity gives the wine a fresh, crisp finish. Ripe strawberry perfumes linger on the palate.
