the Duffour family for several generations. Michel Duffour took over the estate in 1971 and his approach is very much based on quality rather than quantity. By reducing yields and working meticulously in the winery he has made this estate one of the best and most consistent in the area. Today, Michel's son Nicolas has fully taken over the estate.

Vineyards

Domaine de Saint-Lannes spreads across the sprawling slopes so typical of the region. The surface under vine is 70 hectares with a clay and limestone soil which is an ideal site for the white grape varieties grown there. The south facing slopes ensure early ripening as well as perfect drainage. The continental climate, hot summers and cold winters, is beneficial for the healthy development of the vegetative cycle of the vines. The average age of the vines is 30 years.

Vintage Information

Spring frosts in April heavily impacted yields, however, a warm and long summer gave the grapes concentration and sugar enabling them to ripen fully. Summer was so warm that many producers harvested around one month ahead of schedule. The 2017 vintage is looking promising as the wines are fruit-driven and despite their advanced state of ripeness at harvest this year, retain good acidity and a pleasing balance on the palate.

Vinification

On arrival at the winery, the grapes were cold soaked for 15 hours and left on the lees for seven days at 10°C. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tank at 16-20°C for 10-20 days, depending on the grape variety. The wines were held separately until blending in January following the vintage. The first bottling took place in the third week in February, with the second following a month later, ensuring that the wine is as fresh as possible, while the Screwcap closure eliminates cork taint.

Tasting Notes

This wine is bright pale yellow in colour, with green glints. Very aromatic with citrus notes. On the palate, it is crisp, with bright fruit flavours, good weight and a lasting, clean aromatic finish.
