aim is to make contemporary, high quality wines that stand among the best of their type in Australia. The wines are made exclusively from fruit grown in the Adelaide Hills, one of Australia's coolest and most exciting regions. Shaw + Smith specialise in grape varieties suited to cooler climates, such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, and also make fantastic wines from Shiraz and Pinot Noir.
Sourced exclusively from Block 4 at Shaw + Smith's picturesque Lenswood property. The vineyard is mature (planted in 1999) and reaches 500 metres above sea level. The site has always shown potential for a single site wine and in 2014 the ambition was realised with the first release. This followed significant investments to improve the vineyard since its acquisition by Shaw + Smith in 2012.
2015 was a remarkable vintage. Above average winter rainfall ensured a good start to the growing season, and warm weather around the New Year was followed by useful rain on the 13th of January. The season concluded with mild, stable conditions and delivered fruit of wonderful quality to the winery.
Bunches were chilled overnight, whole-bunch pressed, then fermented in new and used French oak puncheons. This was followed by a further 10 months in barrel with gentle stirring and minimal working.
An elegant single vineyard Chardonnay, with aromas of blossom, grapefruit and white peach complemented by notes of brioche. The palate is long and flavoursome, with good mid-palate texture and bright acidity to balance the intensity of fruit.
