Côtes-du-Rhône Rouge

Côtes-du-Rhône

Les Terres du Roy

'Roy' is the old spelling for 'roi' in French and the name 'Terres...

du Roy' means 'lands of the king'. The vineyards are situated on land which was once two lakes, Rochefort and Pujaut. The lakes were artificially drained in 1612 to provide feuding parties more land for agricultural use. The wine is vinified in a modern winery that was renovated in 2001.

Vineyards

The vineyards are planted on soils covered with pebbles located on hills overlooking the Pujaut plain, seven kilometres north of Avignon. The vines are on average 40 years old and the vineyards are managed sustainably. Their location in the Southern Rhône produces riper and richer wines with a little more body than further North.

Vintage Information

The 2017 vintage began with a mild winter, followed by lower temperatures in May with some heavy rain during the flowering period, which led to a reduction in yields. By mid-June, the weather improved, becoming warm and dry, ideal growing conditions for the grapes.

Vinification

The wine was fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks and with no oak influence, resulting in a wine with intense primary fruit aromas and vibrancy.

Tasting Notes

This Côtes du Rhône has an enticing nose that is ripe and concentrated, full of black and red berry fruit. It is supple, rich yet balanced with crisp acidity. It is delightful to drink now, on its own or paired with charcuterie, lamb or beef dishes.
