Domaine Borgeot is situated in the Côte de Beaune village of Rémigny. Created in 1903, it is run by brothers Laurent and Pascal Borgeot, who are the fourth generation of their family to manage this domaine. The estate comprises 23 hectares of sustainably farmed vineyards in Bouzeron, Santenay, Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet.

As the saying goes in Burgundy, if you look at the person behind the wines, you will get an idea of the style of wine in your glass. This could not be truer for Domaine Borgeot, whose wines exhibit the calm and measured restraint of Pascal, balanced with the exuberance and liveliness of Laurent.

Domaine Borgeot’s wines are fermented in a combination of temperature-controlled, stainless-steel vats and oak barrels, creating complexity while retaining primary fruit aromas. The Bourgogne Blanc Côte d'Or is a blend of three parcels, two in Chassagne-Montrachet and the third in Puligny-Montrachet. The wine is fermented in stainless steel before ageing in oak barrels, 15% of which is new. The brothers use 20-25% new oak for the ‘villages’ wines and 33% for the Premier Crus to lend additional weight and complexity.

Laurent and Pascal also own significant vineyard holdings in the village of Santenay, from which they produce several wines. The range includes a Santenay Blanc ‘Clos de la Comme Dessus’, which displays a core of expressive yellow stone fruit, and two Santenay 1er Crus: ‘La Comme’, which has great texture and marked salinity, and ‘Les Gravières’, which is defined by a lovely freshness balancing the toasty richness of the oak. Their Santenay Vieilles Vignes is sourced from 80-year-old Pinot Noir vines, producing a wine of intense, lively red fruit and supple tannins.

Located close to Meursault, the Puligny-Montrachet ‘Les Grands Champs’ is aged for 11 months in French oak barrels, of which 25% is new oak, creating rich intensity on the palate. The Puligny-Montrachet ‘Les Meix’ lies on the Chassagne-Montrachet side of the appellation, 25 metres from the Grand Crus, creating a powerful expression with precise mineral tension. The fruit for the Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes comes from vines aged 60 years old on average, giving beautifully concentrated and well-defined flavours to the final wine. The Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru ‘Clos St. Jean’ comes from the domaine’s prime vineyard site and is aged for 11 months in 100% new French oak. All the wines are perfectly balanced with consistently well-integrated oak.

Vineyards

Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru ‘Champ Gain’ is located at the top of the slope and borders Saint-Aubin to the West. It has an ideal south southeast aspect and the Chardonnay vines are planted on limestone and clay soils. The vineyards are farmed sustainably following 'lutte raisonnée' principles without the use of pesticides

Vintage

The 2021 vintage was a difficult year in Burgundy. After a mild winter and a cold spell in spring, temperatures rose significantly to summer levels during late March-early April. This caused the vines to bud earlier than usual, which left fragile buds vulnerable. During early April, there was a sudden drop in temperature, with extremes of -8ºC and this spring frost impacted yields considerably. Temperatures were milder than usual during the summer and growers also had to contend with a lot of rain. Despite being one of the smallest vintages ever in Burgundy, it offers a very nice and subtle representation of each site and the wines are characterised by freshness and great finesse.

Vinification

Upon arrival at the winery the hand-harvested bunches are sorted and then gently whole-bunch pressed. The must was cooled and settled before being racked off the sediment and moved to barrels for fermentation. Following fermentation the wine is aged in French oak (25% new) for 11 months
